The Association of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology (Verband der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik e.V.) awarded etit Professor Helmut F. Schlaak the VDE Ring of Honour for his globally recognised achievements in the fields of microsystems technology, micromechatronics and micro- and nanotechnology. The ceremonial presentation took place during the VDE Congress “Tec Summit” in Berlin.

Prof. Schlaak

Since 1999 Helmut F. Schlaak has been researching and teaching at the TU Darmstadt, where he heads the Department of Microtechnology and Electromechanical Systems. The VDE particularly honoured his research results on silicon micro-relays and dielectric elastomer converters, with which the Darmstadt professor has made an outstanding contribution to scientific and technical progress.

With its highest award for merit in research and development, VDE honours engineering scientists who are recognised worldwide. The ring of honour is awarded every two years. With this award Helmut F. Schlaak joins a series of renowned researchers: Hans Busch was first awarded the ring of honour in 1958. He was followed by other pioneers of electrical engineering and information technology such as Hans Piloty, Winfried Oppelt, Konrad Zuse and Gerhard Sessler. sas/pg
